How Writesy uses AI, and how we protect privacy
Writesy uses AI to help create writing resources for Australian primary classrooms. We think teachers deserve to know exactly where AI fits in, what we check before anything reaches your classroom, and what data we do (and don't) collect. This page explains it plainly.
How AI is used
Writesy resources are built around images, and AI helps us draft the written scaffolds that accompany them: story starters, tiered vocabulary, sentence starters, dialogue prompts, writing checklists and brainstorming questions.
AI is used in two ways on Writesy:
Free library resources are drafted with the help of AI, then reviewed by a teacher before publication. Review covers year-level suitability, alignment with the Australian Curriculum v9 (English) and consistency with the NAPLAN Writing marking criteria, along with Australian English spelling and conventions throughout.
Bespoke resources (generated on demand using credits) are created by AI at the time you request them, using the same quality rules, year-level calibration and curriculum alignment that our free library is built on. Because these are generated instantly, they are not individually reviewed by a person before you receive them. We recommend you read any bespoke resource before using it with students, just as you would any new teaching material.
While we work hard to make every resource accurate, curriculum-aligned and classroom-ready, AI-assisted content can occasionally contain errors or phrasing that doesn't suit your particular class. Resources are provided as teaching aids for you to review and adapt using your professional judgement; they are not a substitute for it.
Human review
Every resource published to the free library is checked by a person against:
- the ACARA NAPLAN Writing Marking Guide, so scaffolds and checklists reflect the criteria students are actually assessed on
- the Australian Curriculum v9 (English) content descriptions for the target year level
- our own house standards for Australian English, punctuation and model-text quality
If you spot an error in any resource, free or bespoke, we want to know. Use our contact page to let us know and we'll review it promptly.
Student data
Writesy is designed for teachers use, not students.
- Students do not need accounts.
- No student names, work samples or personal information are required to use any Writesy resource.
- Nothing a teacher generates on Writesy involves entering student data, and we ask that you don't include identifying student information in any prompts or requests.
- Resources are downloaded and used offline in your classroom; no student interaction with our platform, or with AI, takes place.
This means Writesy can be used consistently with state and territory department guidance on AI in schools, because students never interact with an AI system through our platform.
Teacher data and AI
When you generate a bespoke resource, the details of your request (such as the topic, year level and resource type) are processed by our AI provider in order to create it. We do not use your requests to train AI models, and we do not sell your data.
For full details on the account information we collect and how it's handled, read our privacy policy.
