The dragon's fiery breath lit up the night sky. It made a perfect ring of flames on the cold stone ground. Clara and Ethan stood close to each other. They held their marshmallows on long sticks. The fire was bright and warm. An ancient castle stood behind them. They both felt safe with the enormous creature beside them. He was their friend, and they were not afraid.

The complication

  1. Suddenly, a loud rumbling noise echoed from the castle, making Clara and Ethan wonder if something was lurking inside.
  2. A group of villagers, frightened by the dragon's fiery display, approached with torches and pitchforks, demanding that the dragon leave.
  3. The dragon's flames unexpectedly flicker out, leaving Clara and Ethan in darkness as they hear strange noises coming from the shadows.

Sentence starters

  1. Later that night, Clara whispered to Ethan about their plans for an adventure in the castle.
  2. The dragon flapped his enormous wings and let out a joyful roar that echoed through the valley.
