The Storm Chaser’s Voyage
Adventure
The Storm Chaser’s Voyage is a free, NAPLAN-aligned adventure writing resource for Australian primary students. It includes a story starter, complication, tiered vocabulary and scaffolds mapped to the Australian Curriculum (AC9).
The wind howled through the sails as the boat rocked violently against the crashing waves. Jake gripped the wheel, his knuckles white, rain stinging his face like tiny needles. He had set sail under clear skies, but now the storm was upon him. Lightning split the sky, illuminating the dark clouds that loomed overhead. The lighthouse on the distant shore flickered for a moment, then vanished into the mist. He was alone. The storm wasn’t just any storm—this was the one sailors whispered about, the one that had swallowed ships whole.
The complication
- The compass is spinning wildly—Jake has lost all sense of direction.
- The radio is dead, and the lighthouse has disappeared—how will he find his way?
- A mysterious shadow appears in the water—was something else out there with him?
