I pressed myself against the bars of the cage. I tried to stay as quiet as possible. My heart raced. We had been stuck in here for what felt like forever. The giant was very close. He chopped vegetables at the counter. His huge hands moved quickly as he sliced tomatoes with a knife bigger than me! I looked at the others, Emma, Leo, and Sam. We all knew we had to escape. The giant might not notice us now, but if he turned around… We had to act fast. But how?

The complication

  • The giant turns around and the knife slips from his hand, making a loud clatter that might wake the others in the house.
  • One of the cage bars is rusty and starts to bend when we try to force it, but bending it might make a noise and attract the giant.
  • Emma panics and freezes, so I must decide whether to help her quietly or try to get out myself and come back for her.
