The Goblin Who Stole Homework
Fantasy
The Goblin Who Stole Homework is a free, NAPLAN-aligned fantasy writing resource for Australian primary students. It includes a story starter, complication, tiered vocabulary and scaffolds mapped to the Australian Curriculum (AC9).
Max was sure he had finished his homework—every math problem, every sentence in his reading assignment. But every morning, without fail, it would mysteriously disappear. He searched high and low for his missing work, but it was nowhere to be found. One day, after finishing another crumpled sheet of math problems, Max caught a tiny movement out of the corner of his eye. He turned just in time to see a small goblin, wearing ragged clothes and carrying a sack, sneaking through a crack in his bedroom wall with his homework stuffed inside!
The complication
- Max tries to catch the goblin, but it’s quick and keeps escaping through the crack in the wall.
- The goblin keeps making Max’s homework disappear, but it’s not the only thing the goblin is stealing—Max’s favorite toys and snacks are disappearing too!
- Max tries to reason with the goblin, but it doesn’t speak the same language, and instead keeps causing trouble in Max’s room.
